Our Team


Members of our South Korean practice have served as lead counsel in cases in district courts throughout the country, in the ITC, in the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals, and in state courts in Texas, California, and Georgia, and have provided strategic counseling in cases in the European Union, Canada, and Asia. They frequently travel to Asia to support the direct management of Intellectual Property (IP) in the automotive, medical device, and consumer products industries.

Automotive:  Leveraging our strong presence in the automotive industry, as well as our experience in the software and information technology industries, our team delivers superior legal advice to our Korean clients in the automotive industry. We counsel clients on changes in risk allocations occurring between traditional automotive and new technology companies. Our team has technical experience in the field of automotive structures including automotive interior and exterior structures, engine and transmission systems, as well as software related to automobile collision simulations.


Inbound and Outbound Transactions: Our South Korean practice team not only helps clients with a full spectrum of matters in Korea, but we also provide strategic legal counsel to Korean companies looking to expand or establish operations in the United States. We assist with corporate governance, emerging businesses, mergers & acquisitions, real estate, and environmental as well as with securities enforcement and government investigations.


Intellectual Property: We manage the intellectual assets of large and small clients based in South Korea. Our work includes procurement and protection of patent and trademark portfolios, auditing and protecting trade secrets, setting corporate policy, and providing IP analytics.


Labor & Employment: Our team provides general counsel regarding employment and litigation matters for Korean companies operating in the United States.


International Trade:  We help our Korean clients maximize benefits and opportunities through international trade while navigating customs and meeting their compliance obligations. We advise on import activities, including proper classification of merchandise, correct valuation, origin designation, consumer product safety, and regulatory restrictions and exemptions.

Representative Matters


Negotiated the license between a global licensing entity and a major Asian technology company related to standard 4G and LTE patents.

Represented an Asian pharmaceutical company in a Hatch-Waxman action over an ANDA filing concerning bendamustine hydrochloride used in the treatment of patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. 

Provided strategic counsel regarding patent portfolio evaluation, monetization, licensing, patent reexamination and inter partes review proceedings, and patent acquisition to clients in Korea.

Advised the parties regarding intellectual property issues during the negotiation of the United States-Korea Free Trade Agreement and providing seminars and lectures on American intellectual property law to judges and patent examiners of the Korean Intellectual Property Office and the Korean Innovators Forum.
