Erica A. Erman

Of Counsel

Erica Erman is an attorney at Dickinson Wright PLLC, practicing health law and administrative and regulatory law with a particular interest in behavioral healthcare and interactions between municipal law and healthcare law. On the healthcare side, her work includes handling administrative hearings, counseling clients with issues related to HIPAA compliance, Stark and AKS, state licensing, contract drafting, and healthcare business transactions. Erica has experience in litigating both state and federal False Claims Act cases, has counseled clients with the Parity Act and psychiatric urgent care, and has written multiple articles on emergent case law regarding parity. On the administrative and regulatory side, Erica has experience representing parties in public utility commission proceedings and before the Arizona Corporation Commission.

Prior to joining Dickinson Wright, she graduated cum laude from the James E. Rogers College of Law at the University of Arizona, and served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Robert M. Brutinel of the Arizona Supreme Court.

  • Represent medical centers and provide behavioral health legal assistance for their inpatient, intensive outpatient programs (IOP), and outpatient behavioral health services.
  • Represent behavioral health hospitals in State Fair Hearings before the Office of Administrative Hearings and Arizona Department of Economic Security, and in other disputes with payors.
  • Represented a private medical facility in recovering multiple million dollars in denied or previously underpaid claims.
  • Successfully represented and defended a medical doctor in a State investigation in an overbilling allegation.
  • Regularly represent health care providers and facilities in navigating medical record requests and subpoenas, HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 compliance, and updating policies and procedures.
