Jaclyn Culler is a regulatory attorney who focuses her practice on employee benefits, executive compensation, and labor & employment matters in addition to serving clients in the hospitality and alcohol licensing space.
Ms. Culler advises private and public employers on the planning and compliance aspects of employee benefit plans, including health and welfare plans, retirement and savings plans, and deferred compensation plans. She has extensive experience counseling clients on tax and ERISA reporting and disclosure requirements and has a proven track record of helping clients to abate penalties assessed by the IRS and Department of Labor due to filing issues.
Ms. Culler assists clients with compliance matters as it relates to federal laws such as HIPAA, ACA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, FLSA, ADEA, Title VII, and their state law components. She regularly works with clients ranging from entrepreneurs at start-up ventures to experienced Human Resources personnel at large national and international companies to draft handbooks, policies, and employment agreements. She has represented employers in front of the EEOC, NLRB, and similar administrative agencies on numerous occasions, often to defend against discrimination or unfair labor practice charges brought by current or former employees or unions. Additionally, Ms. Culler is experienced in petitioning the NLRB on behalf of employers with respect to union representation matters and providing guidance throughout the election process.
To round out her regulatory practice, Ms. Culler specializes in all facets of alcohol licensing, working with manufacturers, distributors, and suppliers of beer, wine, and liquor to obtain the proper business licensing and permits needed to open doors quickly and seamlessly. She navigates complex state and local codes and regulations on behalf of clients, eliminating stress at a time when it is easy to become overwhelmed by simultaneously dealing with business formation, trademark, real estate, and other contract issues.
Outside of her practice, Ms. Culler is committed to giving back to the legal community and is actively involved in the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, having served on the board of its Wayne Region for five years, most recently as President. She enjoys serving as a mentor to new attorneys, law students, and those contemplating a career in the legal field. Prior to joining Dickinson Wright, Ms. Culler worked in state government as well as the real estate sector. Her diverse experience and leadership provide a unique perspective to her practice, allowing her to work closely with clients to offer strategic counsel wherever needed.
