Zac Lackey is an associate based in Dickinson Wright's Columbus office, where his practice focuses on energy, sustainability, and environmental law. Zac assists energy companies with all phases of development and operation, including permitting, compliance, and other regulatory matters at the Ohio Power Siting Board, the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, and the local level. Zac also conducts thorough environmental due diligence in support of mergers and acquisitions and counsels clients in environmental law and regulatory compliance.
Zac entered legal practice after spending six years in the financial services industry, initially completing a comprehensive leadership development program, then advancing into management positions. His experience included overseeing large teams, driving project management initiatives, and conducting detailed business analytics — all of which enhance his ability to deliver practical, results-oriented solutions to his clients.
His experience is also deeply informed by hands-on roles across public and private sectors. Zac interned with the U.S. Department of the Interior and the Oregon Department of Justice, gaining firsthand insight into governmental regulatory processes. Additionally, his experience with renewable energy companies such as NewSun Energy and Vestas American Wind Technology provided him substantial exposure to legal issues impacting the solar, wind, and hydroelectric industries. During law school, Zac further honed his skills by assisting entrepreneurs and small businesses at the Lewis & Clark Small Business Legal Clinic. He holds a Certificate in Energy, Innovation, and Sustainability Law from Lewis & Clark Law School, underscoring his specialized knowledge in emerging energy and environmental issues.
Prior to joining Dickinson Wright, Zac worked as an attorney for another firm in Columbus, where his practice focused on navigating the complexities of federal and state environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), and emerging regulations related to Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) and extended producer responsibility.
At Dickinson Wright, Zac leverages his diverse background, meticulous analytical skills, and industry-specific insights to proactively address energy and environmental permitting, operational, and compliance challenges, mitigate risks in corporate transactions, and effectively manage regulatory proceedings.
