Dickinson Wright LLP, Canada’s leading full-service business law firm specializing in cross-border counsel, is pleased to announce that Matthew D. Powell has joined the firm’s Toronto office as a Senior Patent Agent.
Mr. Powell has been building intellectual property portfolios for his clients for over 17 years. Originally trained as an electrical and computer engineer, he worked in high-tech as a software developer patenting technology that was pivotal to his employer’s valuation during its acquisition. He now applies his incredible attention to detail and thoughtfulness to growing the patent portfolios of his clients in numerous software, computer, electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing technology fields.
Mr. Powell is listed in the IAM Strategy 300 – The World’s Leading IP Strategists. The Canadian Commissioner of Patents appointed him to a three-year term on the Patent Agent Examination Board. He is also regularly asked to lecture, tutor or write about patenting by the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys, the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada, the Ontario Bar Association, OCAD University, Sheridan College, the MaRS Discovery District, and a number of other organizations. Mr. Powell received his B.S. in Electrical and Computing Engineering from Queen’s University.
