Join Dickinson Wright PLLC and Attorney Elise Levasseur for “DHS Increases Period of STEM OPT (Optional Practical Training): Imposes Additional Requirements on Employers” webinar on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. EST.
On March 11, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security published a new rule reauthorizing Optional Practical Training (OPT) for F-1 non-immigrant students with qualifying degrees in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) from accredited U.S. colleges or universities. The new rule goes into effect on May 10, and effectively replaces the 17-month STEM OPT extension previously available to qualifying students under the 2008 interim rule.
In this informative one-hour webinar, we will discuss:
• How the STEM OPT Program will change for employers and employees
• Learn which degrees will qualify under STEM OPT
• Find out what qualifying employment is, and what the new employer obligations entail
• Learn about the new STEM OPT training plan requirements
• Find out about filing periods and procedures
• Learn about new employer site visits by ICE/DHS
