Dickinson Wright LLP, Canada’s leading full-service business law firm specializing in cross-border counsel, is pleased to congratulate Cherie Brant on her appointment to the Board of Directors of Hydro One. Her appointment was effective on August 14, 2018.
Hydro One is Ontario’s largest electricity transmission and distribution company. Ms. Brant was selected to the Board of Directors by the Province, Hydro One’s largest shareholder, in accordance with the Governance Agreement. Drawing on her 10 years of experience working with First Nations in energy policy, generation along with assisting clients on economic development opportunities and transmission development in the sector, Ms. Brant will work with the board to drive the strategic direction and governance of Hydro One.

Ms. Brant is a Partner in Dickinson Wright’s Toronto office where she has a renewable energy, Aboriginal law and commercial real estate practice. In this role, she provides strategic counsel to numerous First Nations and industry clients seeking to develop projects with First Nations and to understand and address Indigenous rights and interests. As a member of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte and with family from Wikwemikong First Nation on Manitoulin Island, Ms. Brant brings a profound understanding of the opportunities and challenges that both Indigenous people and industry proponents face in carrying out resource, infrastructure and economic development in Canada.
Cherie is well recognized by the legal community for her work and contributions to Canadian law. She was named a Lexpert Leading Lawyer for Aboriginal Law and Energy Law in 2014. In 2017, she received the Lexpert Zenith Award, a national recognition for women’s contributions to Canadian law. She was also named a “Lexpert Rising Star: Leading Lawyer Under 40” in 2012.
