About Dickinson Wright in Toronto

Dickinson Wright is a full-service business law firm located on Bay Street in downtown Toronto. Our client service teams are highly integrated with the rest of the firm, which is located in the United States, so we provide efficient and seamless cross-border assistance to our clients. In Toronto, we assist Canadian, American, and international clients with their Canadian business needs.

What Our Students Do

We provide our students with the opportunity to develop their legal skills in an experienced, supportive, collegial and engaging environment. Our firm has two three month rotations (Corporate and Litigation) in order to ensure that our students gain exposure to all practice areas. The remaining four months are spent working with all of the lawyers at the firm.  You will be exposed to diverse areas of law and encounter and learn about interesting and challenging legal issues. You will interact and work with lawyers in Canada, the United States and abroad.

Our students work extremely closely with our lawyers. It is not unusual for a student to be working directly with a partner on a file, interacting with clients and getting deeply involved in the legal issues. You will work on transactions, closings, trials, motions, arbitrations, mediations, research projects, presentations, and attend client meetings throughout your student experience. You will also have the opportunity to attend firm events.

Our students are an integral part of our success, and we provide extensive training throughout the student experience in order to help our students succeed. In addition, each student is matched with a partner who acts as that student’s mentor. We recognize that our students have lives outside of their work at the firm, and while our students work hard, we support and encourage our students to have a healthy work-life balance.

Length and Start Date

Our summer student program runs from May until August before students begin their third year of law school.

Our articling student program runs from August until May of the year following our students’ graduation from law school.

Salary and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary and benefits package which includes two weeks of paid study time for the bar exams. In addition, the firm pays for the bar exams, and offers benefits such as medical, dental and life insurance and paid vacation.
