Attorney Kate Lowenhar-Fisher Quoted in Racing Publication Articles on Sports Betting

Kate Lowenhar-Fisher (Member, Las Vegas) was recently quoted in a Daily Racing Form article, “Will racing’s boat rise with tide of sports betting expansion?” The article was a recap of the University of Arizona’s Symposium of Racing, at which Kate was a speaker.
“Sports-betting operations are an amenity,” she says, noting also that the business is highly volatile. “They’re there as an option for casino customers. They have never been a big money maker.”
Kate was also quoted in Bloodhorse.com’s article regarding the Symposium, “Symposium: Sports Betting Not ‘Golden Goose’ for Racing.” The article discussed that the consensus from a number of panel members, Kate included, that sports wagering is not a “golden goose” and warned of the pitfalls it might have for the racing industry.
“The term ‘golden goose’ and the pie-in-the-sky kind of discussion about sports betting in the United States – the economics of a sports book are not a mystery,” says Kate. “They have a lot of history and evidence about how a sports book can earn money in a regulated marketplace and how a sports book can be murdered because of unreasonable taxes, fees, and so forth.”
