Environmental Attorneys Bert Acken and Sam Lofland Join Dickinson Wright's Phoenix Office

Dickinson Wright PLLC is pleased to announce that environmental attorneys Albert “Bert” Acken and Samuel Lee Lofland have joined the firm’s Phoenix office as Members.
“We are excited that Bert and Sam have decided to join our growing environmental practice,” says Anna Maiuri, Co-Chair of the firm’s Environmental, Energy & Sustainability Practice Group. “Their experience in the environmental sphere, from regulation to litigation, in the Southwest widens our practice’s reach to better serve our clients with interests in the southwestern United States.”
Albert “Bert” Acken focuses his practice on permitting and compliance, acquiring and defending land positions, due diligence, and business transactions. His clients include leading companies in aggregate and hard rock mining, electrical energy infrastructure, development, and manufacturing. He is an active member of the business community and serves as board counsel for an aggregate mining trade association. Bert is recognized as a leader in his field by Chambers USA in the area of Environmental (including water rights). He received his B.A. from George Washington University and his J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law.
Samuel Lee Lofland works with clients of all sizes, ranging from individuals to industry leaders in renewable and conventional energy, independent power producers, public power, infrastructure, water development, and mining. His practice includes quantifying, acquiring, and defending client’s water rights and resources under applicable state law. His practice also involves interpreting and protecting clients’ water rights and resources under applicable federal law, including issues involving Federal Reclamation Law, the Warren Act, the “Law of the River,” and Indian water rights issues. Sam is a member of the Wyandotte Nation of Oklahoma. He is recognized as a leader in his field by Southwest Super Lawyers. He received his B.A. from Stanford University and his J.D. from Arizona State University.
