Kris O. Beecher was elected Chair Elect for the Indian Law Section of the Arizona State Bar. This is the beginning of a 3-year appointment on the Executive Council, starting September 1, 2022. In September 2023 Beecher will transition to Chair and in 2024, Immediate Past Chair. The Executive Council is made up of ten distinguished attorneys with a focus on Indian law.
The Indian Law Section of the Arizona State Bar exists to advance the understanding, study, adoption, application, interpretation, improvement of federal laws, tribal laws, state laws, rules, and regulations which pertain to Indians, to Indian tribes, or to Indian country, and to their administration and enforcement; to understand and improve the relationships of these bodies of law and judicial and administrative systems, and to encourage and support mutual respect for, and understanding of, the cultures, values, customs, and heritages which underlie them. The Section encourages the education of the general public, both Indian and non-Indian, with respect to the application of laws and legal procedures of particular relevance to the Indian communities and governments thereof.
Beecher is an Associate in Dickinson Wright’s Commercial and Business Litigation practice group. He is an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation and a graduate of the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law and W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University, holding a Juris Doctor/MBA joint degree and a certificate in Indian Law. Kris is a member of the Navajo Nation Bar Association and completed a 3-year term as Chairman of the Board of the largest public housing authority in Indian Country, and nearly the 8th largest in the United States.
