Toronto Lawyer Trevor Whiffen Comments to the National Post Regarding Professional Sports Leagues Policies

November 10, 2014
On November 9, 2014, Dickinson Wright Lawyer Trevor Whiffen commented on professional sports leagues’ domestic violence policies in the article “Will professional leagues reinstate suspended players who have been cleared by the legal system?” by Scott Stinson.

In the article, Mr. Whiffen comments that leagues need commissioners who have the authority to suspend players as soon as domestic violence allegations are made to ensure that the zero-tolerance attitude isn’t softened. “There’s been a remarkable shift in the way these cases are approached,” Mr. Whiffen told the National Post. “But leaders in sport need to continue to take a stronger stand on it.”

Mr. Whiffen will be discussing this and more legal issues affecting professional sports at the PrimeTime Sports Management conference on November 17 & 18 at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel in Toronto.
