11/8/2007
Dickinson Wright Member Timothy H. Howlett will be inducted November 10 as a Fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. Election as a Fellow is the highest recognition by one's colleagues of sustained outstanding performance in the profession, exemplifying integrity, dedication and excellence. The College was established in 1995 through an initiative of the Council of The Section of Labor and Employment Law of the American Bar Association. It operates as a freestanding organization recognizing, by invitation only, those who, by long and outstanding service, have distinguished themselves as leaders in the field. Selection criteria include the highest ethical standards; professional expertise; sustained exceptional high-quality service to clients, the bar, bench and public; and significant evidence of scholarship. Howlett is based in the Detroit office of Dickinson Wright, where he is Director of the firm's labor and employment, immigration, employee benefits and education practice groups. His areas of practice emphasis are labor and employment litigation and counseling. His experience includes numerous jury cases defending wrongful termination, race discrimination, disability discrimination, sex discrimination and religious discrimination claims, including high-profile litigation covered by news media including The New York Times and 20/20. Howlett is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, Labor and Employment Law Section Council. He served on the Grosse Pointe Board of Education from 1990 - 1998, including three terms as its president. He is a frequent lecturer and author on topics related to labor and employment law and discrimination. A resident of Harrison Township, Howlett earned a B.A. degree from Kalamazoo College and a J.D. degree from the University of Michigan School of Law. Howlett will be inducted during the twelfth installation of Fellows on November 10, 2007 in Philadelphia.
