DETROIT, Mich.—The law firm of Dickinson Wright PLLC announced that Sherry D. O'Neal, an associate in the Firm's Detroit office, has been elected to the Wolverine Bar Association's Board of Directors.
A member since 1998, O'Neal has been an active participant of the association's Summer Clerkship Committee, and is currently the Law School Liaison. As a member of the association's Minority Clerkship Committee, Ms. O'Neal has also assisted in the coordination and facilitation of the latest symposium entitled, "Recruitment and Retention of Minorities in Metro Detroit's Prominent Law Firms."
Now serving on the Board of Directors, O'Neal's primary responsibility is the promotion of the association's mission and purpose, ensuring effective organizational planning, as well as monitoring the programs and services supported by the Wolverine Bar Association.
Ms. O'Neal practices in the area of commercial and business litigation, gaming, and labor and employment relations. She is a member of the American Bar Association, Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, and the Michigan Defense Trial Counsel. Ms. O'Neal earned her bachelor's degree in criminal justice and her juris doctorate from Wayne State University.
Since the 1930s, the Wolverine Bar Association has been a powerful network by which African-American attorneys in Michigan address the unique and distinct needs of their communities for legal service, representation and protection. The association was organized to coordinate the energies and talents of the increasing number of African-Americans admitted to practice throughout Michigan.
