Detroit, Mich., August 23, 2007 - Dickinson Wright PLLC is pleased to announce that Scott A. Petz has joined the firm as an associate in the firm's Detroit office. Petz's areas of practice emphasis are commercial and business litigation and bankruptcy. He earned a bachelor's degree, cum laude, from Kalamazoo College, with a major in economics and business, a minor in political science, and a concentration in public policy and urban affairs. He participated in the Study Abroad program at Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia, and received the Monroe Award of Excellence in Economics and Business. While at Kalamazoo College, Petz also traveled to Quito, Ecuador where he conducted a study on the effect dollarization was having on the Ecuadorian tourism industry. Petz presented his findings from his study at the Eastern Economic Association 29th Annual Conference, Issues in Political Economy, in New York City. Petz received a J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from the John Marshall Law School, where he was a member of the Law Review; Associate Editor, Recent Decisions, Morrissey Scholars; recipient of the Fred F. Herzog Scholarship; recipient of the Louis L. Biro Scholarship for Academic Achievement; a judicial extern with the Honorable Richard J. Elrod, Circuit Court of Cook County, IL; a member of Phi Alpha Delta legal fraternity; and a member of the Order of John Marshall. While at the John Marshall Law School, Petz published an article in The Professional Lawyer, Volume 17, Issue 1, 2006, entitled "The Supremacy Clause and its Effect on a State's Ability to Maintain Control Over the Practice of Law Within its Borders: A casenote on Surrick v. Killion." Petz, who lives in Royal Oak, Michigan, was a summer associate at Dickinson Wright in 2006.
