LANSING, MICHIGAN, Attorney Robert W. Stocker II has joined Dickinson Wright PLLC as a Member in the firm's Lansing office effective Thursday, January 16, 2003. Mr. Stocker has more than 33 years of private practice experience and will add considerable additional knowledge and expertise to Dickinson Wright's corporate, gaming, insurance, and health care practices. Previously, Mr. Stocker was a shareholder at Fraser Trebilcock Davis & Dunlap P.C. Mr. Stocker has extensive experience in representing hospitals, nursing homes, physicians, and a wide variety of service industries. Additionally, Mr. Stocker has 25 years' experience in the formation and representation of alternative insurance programs involving the creation and ongoing operation of captive insurance companies, governmental self-insurance pools, and self-insured retention programs. More recently, Mr. Stocker has represented numerous gaming entities. He has advised them on Michigan law related to securing operator's licenses and gaming supplier licenses and played a key role in obtaining Circuit Court reversal of the Michigan Gaming Control Board's denial of an occupational license to a license applicant and thereby placed practical parameters on the discretion of the Board to deny licenses based upon interpretation of data provided by license applicants. Mr. Stocker is the author of numerous articles and books dealing with a variety of business and regulatory topics, including Guidebook to Conducting Business in Michigan, Captive Insurance Manual, and co-authoring The Michigan Gaming Law Legal Resource Book, currently in its second edition. He is also an adjunct professor at The Thomas M. Cooley Law School, where he teaches courses related to corporate and gaming law. Mr. Stocker received his J.D. degree from the University of Michigan Law School in 1968 and his B.A. degree, with honors, from the Denison University in 1965. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and the American Bar Association and is active in various professional organizations, including the International Association of Gaming Attorneys and being a founder of the International Masters of Gaming Law.
