IP Practice Area Grows to 30 Attorneys, Expanding by Nearly 100% in Three Months

DETROIT, Mich. (May 23, 2006) – Dickinson Wright PLLC is pleased to announce the addition of Robert L. Kelly to the Firm's intellectual property team. Mr. Kelly, joining the Firm as Member, is a highly experienced patent litigator who will be operating primarily in the Firm's Bloomfield Hills office. Dickinson Wright is now one of the largest full-service providers of intellectual property and patent services in the state. In the last three months, Dickinson Wright has expanded its Intellectual Property practice by 12 attorneys - a near 100% growth rate. In addition, the Firm has established an intellectual property training program led by Hal Milton, a patent attorney with more than 40 years of experience in patent preparation, prosecution, and licensing. Dickinson Wright now has 30 attorneys principally engaged in its intellectual property practice, including a member with a Ph.D. in pharmacology and a patent agent with a Ph.D. in biochemistry. Robert L. Kelly is a highly experienced intellectual property attorney with special expertise in life sciences, biotechnology and material sciences. His litigation and transactional practice includes patent, trademark, copyright and licensing matters. Mr. Kelly has handled matters involving advanced materials, polymers and semi-conductors. In the life sciences area, he has worked with novel proteins, new cell lines, antibodies and DNA technology. Mr. Kelly gained national recognition for successfully representing the inventor of a home remedy who tried to save his son from a debilitating nerve disease, popularized in the movie Lorenzo's Oil. Mr. Kelly is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Federal Bar Association, the Oakland County Bar Association, the American Chemical Society and the American Institute of Chemists. He received a B.S. in chemistry from Valparaiso University, a J.D. and a M.S. in biology from the University of Detroit Mercy and has completed Ph.D. level course work in biochemistry and molecular biology.
