Attorney Richard Wilhelm Comments on Early Warning Reporting for Automotive Companies

Attorney Richard Wilhelm, in Dickinson Wright’s Detroit office, recently commented on proposed legislation to make Early Warning Reporting (EWR) information from automotive companies to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) available to the public. In the article, “Government puts spotlight on NHTSA shortcomings”, which appeared in Automotive World, he discusses the potential ramifications of the proposed legislation on the industry.

“Does any such benefit justify the disclosure of automotive manufacturers’ internal confidential business information?” said Mr. Wilhelm. “The short answer is that any potential benefit will likely be obscured by the creation of distracting noise about baseless claimed safety issues and outweighed by increased costs and burdens on the auto industry.”
