Attorneys Ralph Levy and N. Courtney Hollins Featured in Article on Tennessee's Tax Code

The Tennessean recently published an article by Dickinson Wright Attorneys Ralph Levy and N. Courtney Hollins titled “Tennessee’s tax code hinders pro-business objective”.

In the article they discuss Tennessee’s business taxes, in particular Tennessee’s franchise and excise taxes. In Tennessee, the franchise and excise taxes are due when income is received within the state, even if the transaction that produced the revenue takes place outside of Tennessee. “While a number of tax exemptions are available, many are too ambiguous in their language for even the most seasoned lawyers to comfortably advise investors and owners as to how they can take advantage of these exemptions, particularly for owners of closely held businesses,” they write.
