Michael Volkov, Former Justice Department Official and Chief Counsel on House Judiciary Committee, Joins Dickinson Wright's Washington, D.C. Office

Dickinson Wright PLLC is pleased to announce that Michael L. Volkov, a former Department of Justice official, Chief Counsel on the House Judiciary Committee, and Assistant U.S. Attorney in the District of Columbia, has joined the firm in its Washington D.C. office. Mr. Volkov's practice will focus on white collar criminal defense; corporate internal investigations and compliance; congressional investigations; government relations and public policy; and civil litigation and regulatory enforcement. Mr. Volkov served as a Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Justice Department's Office of Legislative Affairs; as Chief Counsel on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security for former Chairman F. James Sensenbrenner of the House Judiciary Committee; as Counsel to former Chairman Orrin Hatch of the Senate Judiciary Committee; and as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. Mr. Volkov brings to Dickinson Wright more than 25 years of experience in Washington D.C., with extensive contacts in Congress; the Department of Justice; the Federal Trade Commission; the Federal Bureau of Investigation; the Drug Enforcement Administration; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms; the Department of Homeland Security; the Securities and Exchange Commission; the Department of Treasury; the Federal Communications Commission and other federal agencies. Mr. Volkov served as an Assistant United States Attorney for more than 16 years, and a Trial Attorney in the Antitrust Division for five years. He has conducted complex criminal and civil investigations involving RICO, price fixing, territorial allocations, money laundering, financial crimes, public corruption, drug and violent crimes. In addition, Mr. Volkov was the chief of the first federal gang prosecution section in the United States Attorney's Office in the District of Columbia, and was responsible for supervising many of the most complex prosecutions of violent gangs in the District of Columbia. While working on Capitol Hill, Mr. Volkov played a leading role in the enactment of numerous pieces of legislation, including the PATRIOT Act; the Second Chance Act; the Adam Walsh Child Protection Act; Sarbanes-Oxley; and other major pieces of legislation relating to attorney-client privilege, white collar crime, cyber-crime, intellectual property, sentencing reform and data security.
