Attorney Mark Redinger Quoted in Article on Selling a Business in the Latest Issue of Succession Planning

Dickinson Wright Attorney Mark Redinger, a member in the firm’s Toronto office, was quoted in the article “One Goal, Different Approaches”. The article appeared in the latest edition of Succession Planning. The article focuses on the different approaches business owners can take to sell their business, including the income, asset, and market approaches.

Mark discusses the advantages of the earn-out payment structure for selling a business. “The earn-out has some advantages for both the buyer and the seller that a single payout doesn’t,” he says. “In an earn-out scenario, the buyer gets the comfort of knowing the valuation they placed on the business will be at least as good on the day of close as it is whenever the earn-out expires.” Mark goes on to discuss the advantages for the seller in this scenario that incorporates the market approach to selling a business.
