Labor and Employment Attorneys Present Fair Labor Standards Seminar

5/8/2008
Attorneys from Dickinson Wright PLLC's Labor and Employment group will present "The Fair Labor Standards Act: Working Overtime to Avoid Wage and Hour Violations" on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at Automation Alley in Troy, Michigan. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. In recent years, employers have been barraged with wage and hour lawsuits under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). These claims are attractive to attorneys because they need not prove the employer intentionally violated the law, and the potential damages that can be recovered are generous, including compensatory damages, liquidated damages, and attorneys' fees. As part of this comprehensive seminar, Dickinson Wright experts will address the following: - FLSA coverage and exemptions - Proper classification of employees as exempt or non-exempt - Proper calculation of overtime - Determining "hours worked" for non-exempt employees - Application of the FLSA to public sector and government contractors - Recordkeeping and reporting requirements - Handling investigations by wage-hour division of the Department of Labor - Tips for avoiding collective actions under the FLSA Norman D.
