Dickinson Wright Attorney John H. Norris Selected to Consult with State of Indiana on $2 Billion Coal Gasification Project

Detroit, Mich. (April 3, 2007) – Dickinson Wright attorney John H. Norris has been selected by the State of Indiana to serve as a consultant to its Office of Utility Consumer Counselor in connection with a $2 billion coal gasification project in southwest Indiana. The centerpiece of the project will be a plant that turns coal into substitute natural gas, using state-of-the-art technology to squeeze clean, pipeline-quality gas out of locally produced high-sulfur coal. The site of the plant has not been determined, but it is expected to be in southwestern Indiana. Among the positives cited by the project's supporters are the creation of more than 1,000 jobs and a buffer against the need to import more expensive natural gas into Indiana. Mr. Norris was selected through a search process conducted by the Office of Utility Consumer Counselor. His primary role is to consult with the Consumer Counselor about the economic viability of the project and the related long-term gas purchase contracts expected to be signed by the project sponsor and three large Indiana utilities. Mr. Norris is a Member in the Bloomfield Hills office of Dickinson Wright PLLC. His practice is focused on energy and public utilities.
