Attorney Jeffrey Beemer Writes About Paid Parental Leave for the Nashville Business Journal

October 7, 2015
Labor & Employment Attorney Jeffrey Beemer recently wrote “Paid parental leave is on the rise – here’s what you should know” (10/6/15) for the Nashville Business Journal.

In the article, Mr. Beemer addresses the recent headlines made by companies, such as Netflix, announcing that they would begin offering certain employees unlimited paid parental leave during the first year after a child’s birth or adoption. There is no federal or Tennessee law requiring employers to provide paid parental leave.

“Tennessee’s parental leave law gives eligible employees up to four months of leave for adoption, pregnancy, childbirth and nursing an infant, which is also unpaid,” Mr. Beemer writes. “Until there is a change in the law, the decision to enhance parental leave policies to include paid leave remains a company’s individual decision.”
