Hanley M. Gurwin to Chair Faculty of Divorce Arbitration Institute

Dickinson Wright Attorney Hanley M. Gurwin Named Faculty Chair of Upcoming Divorce Arbitration Institute

January 2006
DETROIT, Mich. (January 12, 2006) – Hanley M. Gurwin, of counsel to Dickinson Wright PLLC, will chair the faculty conducting a Divorce Arbitration Institute in Cleveland, Ohio on January 27-29, 2006. The approximately 35 participants seeking certification from the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) will be coming from nine different states. Gurwin has been a faculty member in nine previous training programs beginning in 1993, during which time over 200 fellows of the AAML have received certification from the AAML as divorce arbitrators. In the past several years, many states, including Michigan, have passed divorce arbitration statutes which has led to many more contested divorce cases being resolved by means of private arbitration as opposed to a contested trial in open court. Gurwin, a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award of the State Bar of Michigan's Family Law Section, has probably arbitrated more contested divorce cases during the past 15 years than any other practicing lawyer in the United States. He has served as Chairman of the Divorce Arbitration Committee of both the AAML and the Family Law Section of the American Bar Association.
