Dickinson Wright and Health Care Leaders Launch New National Health Care Venture, DW Franklin Consulting Group

November 5, 2015
Two health care veterans and international law firm Dickinson Wright PLLC announced today the launch of a new corporate health care venture to be based in Nashville—DW Franklin Consulting Group, LLC. The firms will work together to provide solutions spanning both legal and business consulting services.

Led by Chief Executive Officer C. Timothy Gary and Consulting Leader Kerry Hart, DW Franklin Consulting Group is a full-service health care firm providing comprehensive consulting services in the areas of government relations and general business guidance, strategic planning, interim management, turnaround consulting, acquisition and disposition analysis, corporate and contract structuring, and risk analysis, among other services.

DW Franklin Consulting Group will be based in Nashville and will serve health care clients across the country.

“Together with Dickinson Wright, DW Franklin Consulting Group combines nationally recognized leaders in law, government relations and business consulting services packaged to proactively help our clients to grow their businesses,” Gary said. “I’m honored to lead a group of talented individuals to support health care clients amid constantly changing regulatory, legislative and business environments.”

Hart said while market factors, competition and capital were driving forces in developing health care strategy and operational imperatives several years ago, legal and regulatory drivers are primary agents today.

“Navigating the health care marketplace today is both complex and arduous,” Hart explained. “In partnering with Dickinson Wright, we bridge legal and regulatory compliance guidance with operational consultancy, which is very timely for today’s market—if not overdue.”

“Our involvement with DW Franklin is reflective of Dickinson Wright’s firm-wide commitment to proactively help our clients to grow their businesses,” said Bill Burgess, CEO of Dickinson Wright.

Prior to joining DW Franklin, Gary led the health care practice at Adams and Reese, LLP. He has also served as Vice President and General Counsel for one of the first managed Medicaid companies in the United States, as well as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for a national health and wellness company providing population health management services. Gary holds a law degree from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University and an M.B.A. from Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management.

In addition to leading DW Franklin, Gary will practice law with Dickinson Wright’s Health Care Law Practice Group, which includes attorneys in Nashville and across the U.S. and Canada.

“Tim’s background in successfully reshaping both well-situated and troubled health care companies with sound legal and business counsel makes him an outstanding addition to our firm and the right leader for DW Franklin Consulting Group,” said Burgess. ”We’re excited to build the firm’s momentum in health care and expand services to clients with this new, innovative venture.”

Prior to leading DW Franklin Consulting Group, Hart founded a health care consulting company specializing in large-scale performance improvement. He is the former CEO of two national health care companies and held key management positions at General Motors, Partners National Health Plans and Aetna and Concentra. He holds a Master of Arts degree in management and organizational behavior from Western Kentucky University.

“I’ve worked with Kerry as both a colleague and a client over the years and am continually impressed by his business acumen and deep health care experience. I’m looking forward to working together and providing a critical resource to the national health care community,” Gary said.
