Dickinson Wright Attorneys Offer Pro Bono Services to Magna International in Effort to Help Hurricane Katrina Evacuees

10/18/2005
DETROIT, Mich.— Dickinson Wright is proud to be involved in Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. Magna International, one of the Firm's largest clients, has been working on an extraordinary humanitarian effort to assist Hurricane Katrina victims and several Dickinson Wright attorneys, led by Members, Monica J. Labe and Bernadette M. Dennehy, are providing their legal services on a pro bono basis to assist as outside counsel to Magna, Magna Entertainment Corp. and MI Developments (MID) in this project. Magna initially transported, housed and cared for hurricane evacuees at Magna Entertainment's Palm Meadows horse training facility located in West Palm Beach, Florida but did not want its assistance to end there. The Magna companies are creating a mobile home community in Simmesport, Louisiana where residents will be housed in mobile home units purchased by Magna and have an opportunity to work on various agricultural ventures, with the objective of creating a self-sustaining community. Ms. Labe, Mr. Steven Guerra and Ms. Sienna Dietz have assisted in various real estate-related aspects of the project, including the land acquisition and occupancy agreements with the residents. Ms. Dennehy and Ms. Stephanie Ashiem have worked on certain corporate aspects of the transaction, including establishment of a U.S. non-profit corporation. Dickinson Wright has and continues to work on various aspects of the project.
