Dickinson Wright Sponsors T.J. Martell Foundation's 7th Annual Nashville Honors Gala

Dickinson Wright PLLC was honored to participate in the T.J. Martell Foundation’s 7th Annual Honors Gala in Nashville on March 30, 2015 at the Omni Hotel. Dickinson Wright sponsored a table for the event, which brought top music industry executives, political figures, and artists to raise money for the organization’s fight against leukemia, cancer, and AIDS, as well as celebrate the award winners for their exceptional service to the Foundation.

The event was hosted by Charles “Chip” Esten of ABC’s Nashville, and performers included Lady Antebellum, Matthew West, Vince Gill, EmmyLou Harris, Rodney Crowell, Alison Krauss, Levi Hummon, and Marcus Hummon. Some of Nashville’s most distinguished music industry executives attended the event, including Jimmy Bowen, who produced and/or worked with Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., and Dean Martin and brought Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood together. Other distinguished guests included Mayor Karl Dean, Amy Grant, Rascal Flatts, Tennessee Titan Keith Bullock, Peter Frampton, Chis Young, and current Nashville mayoral candidate Bill Freeman.

The T.J. Martell Foundation, headed by CEO Laura Heatherly, announced that it had raised more than $270 million to support research aimed at finding a cure for leukemia, cancer, and AIDS. This year, the Nashville Gala raised nearly $500,000 and since its inception in 2009, has raised close to $3 million. The honorees recognized for their exceptional service were: Ken Levitan, the Tony Martell Outstanding Entertainment Achievement Award; Dr. Jeffrey Balser, the Medical Research Advancement Award; Becca Stevens, the Lifetime Humanitarian Award; Bill Hearn and Billy Ray Hearn, the Frances Preston Lifetime Music Industry Achievement Award; and Steve and Judy Turner, the Spirit of Nashville Award. The co-chairs for the event were George Anderson, Danielle Bouharoun, and Ree Guyer Buchanan.

Entertainment Practice Group Leader, Derek Crownover, serves as national counsel and has been involved with The T.J. Martell Foundation for over 20 years, providing various legal services from drafting research grants to assisting in nonprofit establishment and management.
