Dickinson Wright PLLC Sponsors Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra's Family Concert Series, Premiering New Work by Local Author

1/14/2008
For the second consecutive year, the Ann Arbor office of nationally recognized law firm Dickinson Wright PLLC is sponsoring the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra's Family Concert Series, named the Dickinson Wright Family Concert Series. The 2008 Series, which begins January 27 at 4 p.m. in the Michigan Theater, features four family-oriented Sunday afternoon concerts and the world premiere of the musical adaptation of Ann Arbor author Debbie Taylor's book, Sweet Music in Harlem. In addition to sponsoring the Family Concert Series, Dickinson Wright attorneys helped copyright this original work. Sweet Music in Harlem tells the light-hearted story of a young boy in Harlem who helps his grandfather gather with all the great jazz musicians of the time for the famous 1958 Esquire photo shoot. The story comes to life through jazz by University of Michigan composer Andy Kirshner, narrator Emery Stephens and Symphony conductor Arie Lipsky. This is the second commission by the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra to set an Ann Arbor author's book to music. The first in the series was last year's premier of a performance based on Nancy Shaw's Raccoon Tune. "Our sponsorship of the Dickinson Wright Family Concert Series is intended to contribute to the Firm's long-term commitment to the Ann Arbor community," said Thomas D. Hammerschmidt, Jr., a Member in Dickinson Wright's Ann Arbor office. "Ann Arbor has many world-class cultural organizations, its Symphony among them," Hammerschmidt said. "We are proud to provide both financial underwriting and the assistance of our office's intellectual property lawyers in support of the innovative and proprietary work that the Family Concert Series and its composers are contributing to the local community, and to the artistic community at large."
