Dickinson Wright attorneys Michael C. Hammer, Steven G. Howell and James A. Plemmons recently took part in the 2009 Automotive Conference presented by The Detroit Chapter Turnaround Management Association and the Federal Bar Association Bankruptcy Section. Mr. Hammer was one of the event organizers and served as the event Emcee. Mr. Howell and Mr. Plemmons presented on insolvency and bankruptcy. The Conference was held March 25, 2009 in Detroit. The Conference was intended to explore both the basics of restructuring and bankruptcy law, as well as the conceptual issues facing today's automotive industry. Additional speakers included the past CEO and current Chairman of Delphi; government representatives; engineering and technology experts; lenders and investors; turnaround and insolvency experts; bankruptcy judges; and industry observers and strategists. About the Emcee and speakers Michael C. Hammer is a member in Dickinson Wright's Ann Arbor and Detroit offices. Mr. Hammer focuses his practice in bankruptcy law and litigation. Prominent assignments handled by Mr. Hammer include serving as lead counsel for Chrysler in the Plastech tooling dispute; representing a major bank in termination of a collateralized lease of a charter school involving millions of dollars in property damage; and successfully obtaining dismissal of a multi-million dollar dealer termination case related to an automotive dealership. Mr. Hammer is co-chair of the bankruptcy section of the Federal Bar Association (Eastern District of Michigan chapter). Steven G. Howell is a member in the firm's Detroit office, and serves as the head of the firm's banking and bankruptcy practice.
