Dickinson Wright PLLC Attorney to Present Webinar on Michigan Wetland Regulations

3/3/2010
Dickinson Wright attorney Timothy A. Stoepker will present a Webinar on March 31, 2010 entitled "Recent Changes to Michigan Wetland Regulations: What you Need to Know." The 90-minute Webinar is hosted free of charge by JFNew, an ecological consulting and ecosystem restoration firm. In November 2009, Michigan amended its wetlands statute, affecting many elements of state authority and review procedures. The Webinar will help participants understand these changes and the current state of wetlands law and regulation in Michigan. Participants will hear about Michigan's history of wetlands regulation, changes to the statute, and key legal issues to be aware of when proposing development and conservation projects from Mr. Stoepker and JFNew professional wetland scientists Stu Kogge, Kelly Rice and Joe von Wahlde. Mr. Stoepker has focused his 29-year law practice on the development and construction of schools, student housing, retail centers, industrial complexes and housing projects, port facilities, office buildings, historic restoration projects, condominium projects, waste water plants and community foundation projects. Within the context of his development practice he has applied for wetland permits at the federal, state and local levels, and has been directly involved in contested cases regarding wetland jurisdiction, wetland permits, wetland delineation and wetland mitigation. He served as the lead attorney and presented the oral argument before the United Supreme Court in the matter of Carabell et. al. vs. The United States Army Corp of Engineers et.al. 547 U.S. 715 (2006), which specifically addressed the issue of federal jurisdiction pursuant to the Clean Water Act over alleged regulated wetlands. Mr. Stoepker is a member of the Michigan Bar Association and American Bar Association. He has appeared as legal counsel in state and federal courts in Michigan and Florida, and has appeared before and argued in the United States Supreme Court, the United States Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Michigan Court of Appeals. He is a graduate of the University of Detroit School of Law and Western Michigan University. For more information on this Webinar, please contact Stu Kogge at (517) 898-9018 or skogge@jfnew.com.
