Dickinson Wright Further Expands Intellectual Property Practice, Adding Four Experienced Patent and Trademark Attorneys in Michigan

Dickinson Wright PLLC is pleased to announce that John C. Blattner and Christopher A. Mitchell have joined the firm as members in the Ann Arbor, Michigan office; and that Mikhail Murshak and Dr. Steven M. Parks have joined the firm as Of Counsel in the Lansing, Michigan office. All four attorneys previously were affiliated with the Butzel Long firm.

About John C. Blattner
John specializes in the area of trademark counseling, registration, maintenance and enforcement in both the United States and overseas. He has represented a Italian jewelry designer, German and U.S. automakers, financial services companies, and consumer products manufacturers. John is a an Adjunct Professor at Michigan State University College of Law, where he has been teaching trademarks and unfair competition since 2005.

John received his B.A. and J.D. from the University of Michigan and his M.A. from the American University. He is a member of the International Trademark Association: Publications Committee; American Bar Association (Intellectual Property and Appellate Sections); State Bar of Michigan (Intellectual Property and Appellate Sections); and National Association of College and University Attorneys. Prior to becoming a lawyer, John was a radio reporter, newscaster and journalist.

About Christopher A. Mitchell
Chris focuses his practice on handling the preparation and prosecution of patents with a special emphasis on consumer products, life sciences and medical devices. He has represented biochemical producers, manufacturers of food products, sporting goods and building products, medical device manufacturers and online service providers. Chris is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office as well as the Canadian Intellectual Property Office and has been a featured speaker on Ontario patent law.

Chris received his B.A. from Kenyon College and his J.D. from the University of Cincinnati William Howard Taft College of Law. After completing law school Chris worked at Upjohn Company in its department of Bioprocess Research and Development.

About Mikhail Murshak
Mikhail’s practice focuses on all aspects of patent preparation and prosecution, as well as litigation with primary emphasis in the chemical arts. He has represented clients in industries such as medical devices, automotive, hybrid vehicle technology and chemical engineering. Mikhail is admitted to practice in Michigan, New York and Connecticut and he is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Mikhail received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Michigan State University and his J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law.

About Dr. Steven M. Parks
Steve’s practice focuses on various aspects of patent preparation, prosecution and counseling including freedom-to-operate, patentability, non-infringement, and validity opinions. His technical background includes diverse areas such as chemical engineering, chemistry, material science, agricultural engineering, and mechanical engineering, with a particular focus in areas such as polymer chemistry, bio-based alternative fuel technology, agricultural and biological assays, and process engineering.

Steve holds B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Engineering, both from Michigan State University. During graduate school, he also studied fluid mechanics at the University of Erlangen, in Germany. He received his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School.
