June 10, 2015
Dickinson Wright PLLC is pleased to announce that Attorney Derek Crownover has been selected as one of the Nashville Business Journal’s 2015 Best of the Bar Award winners. Along with 65 other private practice attorneys in Nashville, he will be honored at the Best of the Bar Celebration Reception on June 18.

Crownover is an Equity Member in the firm’s Music Row office and is the Entertainment Law Practice Group Leader. He represents songwriters, publishers and producers, as well as some of the most active entrepreneurs in the entertainment and intellectual property (IP) sectors in the South. He assists clients with diverse business matters including LLC funding, real estate acquisition and disposition, asset purchases, recording agreement negotiation, audits, employment counseling, tax matters, and wills and trusts. Collectively, his producer, songwriter, publisher and artist clients have sold in excess of 400 million records.

Among many esteemed rankings, Crownover has been named a national “Best Lawyer” in entertainment law annually since 2009 by Smith and Naifeh’s Best Lawyers and Law Firms. He served as an adjunct professor of entertainment law at the Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business at Belmont University, is a voting member of the Country Music Association and also is the national and Tennessee legal counsel for the T.J. Martell Foundation, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year by raising over $270 million dollars for Leukemia, cancer and AIDS research. He was an Academic All-SEC shortstop who received his B.A. from Auburn University and his J.D. from the University of Tennessee School of Law.

“We are pleased to see Derek receive this respected honor and be recognized by fellow members of the local Bar,” said Tom Donnell, member attorney with Dickinson Wright’s Nashville office. “Derek represents some of the biggest names in country music publishing, and he brings a wealth of talent to our Music Row and Nashville offices, as well as our entire firm. ‘Best of the Bar’ is most certainly fitting.”

The Nashville Business Journal’s Best of the Bar honorees are selected by their peers. Winners were chosen in three firm size categories plus a corporate counsel category. The 2015 Best of the Bar winners will be featured in an upcoming June edition of the Nashville Business Journal.
