Dickinson Wright attorneys Stephen E. Dawson, Hanley M. Gurwin and Peter S. Sheldon will be honored by Best Lawyers during the organization's 25th Anniversary Event in Atlanta, Georgia, next month. The event will celebrate the distinguished careers of these three attorneys, as well as the more than 1,000 lawyers who have been listed in the publication since it began rating lawyers in 1983. Stephen E. Dawson is a member in Dickinson Wright's Bloomfield Hills office. Mr. Dawson focuses his practice in real estate law, including real estate finance, commercial mortgage lending and leasing, real estate workouts and foreclosures, and real estate developments. He has served as counsel to Mercedes-Benz Financial and Chrysler Financial Services Americas LLC, advising on national real estate activities; he advises various lenders on real estate loans and choice and exercise of remedies; he represents various developers in the acquisition, development and leasing of projects; and he represented the City of Detroit Downtown Development Authority in connection with the Compuware and Campus Martius projects. Hanley M. Gurwin is an Of Counsel attorney, also in Dickinson Wright's Bloomfield Hills office. He focuses his practice in family and matrimonial law, and alternative dispute resolution. He was Founder and Acting Chairman of the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan during its formation, and has served as Section Chairman; as a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers; as President of the Michigan Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers; and currently is a member of the National Board of Governors of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. He also has been a faculty member of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and taught its matrimonial arbitration training course. Mr. Gurwin was the first court-appointed mediator for divorce cases in Michigan, and has been appointed mediator or arbitrator in more than 1,100 cases. Peter S. Sheldon is a member in the firm's Lansing office, focusing his practice in employee benefits, estate planning and administration, taxation and corporate law. He has served as lead counsel and has presented oral arguments in numerous Michigan tax cases, including cases before the United States Supreme Court, Michigan Supreme Court and the Michigan Court of Appeals. He has served as the President of the Tax Council of the Taxation Section of the State Bar of Michigan, as the President of the Ingham County Bar Association, and as the President of the Greater Lansing Estate Planning Council.
