Attorney Recognized as a Top Business Leader in Grand Rapids

Dickinson Wright attorney Patrick A. Miles, Jr. has been recognized by the Grand Rapids Business Journal as one of the top "40 Under 40" business leaders in Grand Rapids, based on business acumen, accomplishments, and community involvement. The individuals were featured in the November 5 issue of the Grand Rapids Business Journal, and were honored at a reception in Grand Rapids this month. Miles is a member of Dickinson Wright, based in the firm's Grand Rapids office. A 1991 Harvard Law School graduate, his areas of practice expertise include corporate and business law, telecommunications, mergers and acquisitions, municipal law and finance, and schools and educational institutions. He has represented companies ranging in size from start-up ventures to public, multi-national corporations on general corporate matters, telecommunications law, and mergers and acquisitions. He is also an expert on minority/women-owned business formation, finance, and certification issues. Aside from being an advocate for diversity and inclusion in the legal profession and the business community at large, Miles primarily focuses his volunteer efforts on education and healthy families. He is Chairman of the Aquinas College Board of Trustees, a board he joined in 1993. He serves on the Spectrum Health Hospitals Board of Directors, and chairs its Finance Committee. He is also on the Spectrum Health Foundation and DeVos Children's Hospital Foundation Boards, and chairs their Committee on Trustees. He is member of the Metropolitan YMCA Board of Directors, and serves as Treasurer and Finance Committee Chair. In addition, he is on the Hope Network Board of Directors. In 2002, Miles was elected by Grand Rapids Bar Association members to serve as their President from 2004 to 2005. Prior to that he served an elected three year-term as a Grand Rapids Bar Association Trustee and was Chair of the Diversity Committee for four years. He was co-chair of George Heartwell's successful 2003 and 2007 campaigns for Grand Rapids Mayor. (more) He is a frequent speaker to professional and business audiences on diversity and inclusion. He also speaks to students of all ages about the leadership, service, and/or the legal profession. In addition to this recognition by the Grand Rapids Business Journal for the third time (2007, 1998 and 2002), Miles has received the Michigan Jaycees "Outstanding Young Michigander" Award (2005); the Grand Rapids Jaycees Distinguished Service Award (2004); the Greater Grand Rapids NAACP Floyd Skinner Justice Award (2004); and the State Bar of Michigan Outstanding Young Lawyer Award (1996).
