Attorney Margaret A. Coughlin Elected Chair of Air & Waste Management Association's East Michigan Chapter

Dickinson Wright member Margaret A. Coughlin, recently was elected Chair of the Eastern Michigan Chapter of the Air & Waste Management Association (A&WMA). The A&WMA is a nonprofit, nonpartisan professional organization that enhances knowledge and expertise by providing a neutral forum for information exchange, professional development, networking opportunities, public education and outreach to more than 8,000 environmental professionals in 65 countries. A&WMA also promotes global environmental responsibility and increases the effectiveness of organizations to make critical decisions that benefit society. Coughlin has extensive experience in environmental law. Her areas of practice expertise and experience includes:
  • Air, water, and wetlands compliance
  • Environmental transactions including due diligence, phase I & II assessments, and baseline environmental assessments
  • On-scene emergency response for environmental incidents involving death, personal injury, business interruption, environmental response, and natural resource impairment
  • Negotiating two major sediment cleanups and successfully negotiating several generic and limited cleanups
  • She earned her bachelor's degree, from Northern Michigan University and her juris doctorate degree, from Wayne State University. Coughlin also serves as the Local Host Committee Management Co-Chair for the A&WMA which will, for the first time in more than 20 years, host an international conference in Detroit at Cobo Center from June 16-19, 2009.
