Dickinson Wright member James A. Plemmons will moderate a session of the State Bar of Michigan Institute for Continuing Legal Education (ICLE) focused on helping attorneys assist their clients during Michigan's down economy. The program will be held at the Inn at St. John's in Plymouth, Michigan October 16, 2007, from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. The session is also available to attendees via live web cast. The program will address issues including best methods for avoiding bankruptcy and getting a business back on its feet; how to protect and preserve clients' relationships with suppliers and customers; new opportunities for clients' growth and expansion; and how to get the most out of dealings with banks and other lenders. Plemmons is based in Dickinson Wright's Detroit office, where he focuses his practice on bankruptcy, commercial and business litigation, real estate, automotive and troubled supplier issues. He has represented companies in troubled supplier, bankruptcy, and debtor/creditor affairs, as well as representing companies in regard to workout, foreclosure and related bankruptcy matters. He has provided counsel to numerous secured lenders, unsecured lenders, bankruptcy trustees, debtors, shareholders, and investor groups in all nature of bankruptcy, restructuring, and workout proceedings, including corporate and individual reorganization and liquidation proceedings. Plemmons is a member of the Michigan Bar Association; the Federal Bar Association for the Eastern District of Michigan; the American Bankruptcy Institute; and the Rotary International. He is also a past president of the Trenton Rotary Club, an advisor to the John McKay Scholarship Fund, a board member of the Tom Shumate Endowment Fund for the Arts, and was a member of Leadership Detroit Class XXVIII. Plemmons is a frequent speaker on bankruptcy, foreclosure, and creditors' rights, and has authored or coauthored several publications, including a chapter in ICLE's "Employment Law in Michigan: An Employer's Guide." He is listed in the Best Lawyers in America 2008 and Michigan Super Lawyers 2007 for his work in bankruptcy and creditor/debtor rights. He earned a B.A. degree with honors from Michigan State University, and a J.D. degree from American University's Washington College of Laws.
