Sunrise Seminar "Employer Shalt Not Discriminate: Religion in the Workplace"
Dickinson Wright PLLC is pleased to announce that our next Sunrise Seminar “Employers Shalt Not Discriminate: Religion in the Workplace” will take place on October 11, 2012 at Automation Alley.
Since 9/11, religious-based discrimination cases have continued to increase, with more than $10 million being awarded to aggrieved individuals in 2010 alone. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Michigan’s Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act prohibit discrimination on the basis of religion and require employers to reasonably accommodate the religious practices of employees, unless doing so would create an undue hardship on the employer.
In this seminar, Dickinson Wright attorneys will talk about what constitutes a religious practice, what must an employer do to accommodate and how to minimize your company’s risk. Learning how to walk the line between accommodating religious beliefs and the prevention of harassment and discrimination claims is becoming more complicated in today’s political climate.
