Fueling the Buckeye Economy: Canada-US Energy Summmit and Ohio Supplier Matchmaking Forum

Dickinson Wright PLLC co-hosted the “Fueling the Buckeye Economy: Canada-U.S. Energy Summit and Ohio Supplier Matchmaking Forum” on February 5, 2014 in Independence, Ohio that featured representatives of six Canadian energy companies (Canadian Natural Resources Limited, Cenovus, Imperial, MEG Energy Corp., Suncor, and TransCanada Corporation) and more than 160 Ohio-based companies seeking to provide goods and services to the Alberta Oil Sands.

The event featured remarks from Dickinson Wright Attorneys Dan Ujczo and Mark High, as well as the Hon. Gregory Kurtz (Mayor of Independence, Ohio), David Mustine (Senior Managing Direct, JobsOhio), Roy Norton (Consul General of Canada to Ohio), and David Manning (Alberta’s Representative to the U.S.) who addressed Canada-U.S. energy collaboration with a particular emphasis on the oil sands and Utica Shale regions. The company representatives from Canada also discussed their operations and several U.S. companies (Nidec Avtron Automation, PLIDCO, and geoAMPS) shared success stories for operating in the oil sands. The participating companies from Canada and the U.S. conducted more than an estimated $25 million in projected sales during the business-to-business matchmaking sessions.

The event was a partnership between Dickinson Wright, the U.S. Department of Commerce, the state of Ohio’s Development Services Agency, the Government of Canada, and ten of Ohio’s leading chambers of commerce and economic development organizations. Specifically, Dickinson Wright PLLC and the Greater Cleveland Partnership co-hosted the event, with partnership support from the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Akron Chamber of Commerce, the International Trade Assistance Center at Cleveland State University, the Manufacturing Advocacy and Growth Network (MAGNET), Northeast Ohio Trade and Economic Consortium (NEOTEC), Stark Development Board, Team Lorain County, TEAM NEO, and the Youngstown-Warren Regional Chamber.
