Judicial Clerkships
Among our attorney ranks are 20 former judicial clerks. While we certainly do not require our lawyers to have a judicial clerkship in their backgrounds, we do recognize the value of them and in most cases, we give full credit, up to two years, for clerkships.
Most of Dickinson Wright's lawyers who were judicial clerks completed their clerkships in the one to two years immediately following law school. A significant percentage of these lawyers were also former summer associates here. Associates who joined the firm immediately after a clerkship but who were not employed by us previously, typically came through our interview process anywhere from three to six months in advance of the end of their clerkship.
If you are currently serving as a judicial clerk and would like to be considered for a position with Dickinson Wright following your clerkship, please send a cover letter, resume (that includes your law school and undergraduate institution GPAs) and two writing samples to:

And for any future summer associates contemplating a judicial clerkship, for our planning needs we prefer to know ahead of time if any of our summer associates have accepted clerkships. As a summer associate, if you earn an offer to become an associate, your acceptance of a judicial clerkship will not delay our extension of that offer. Don't worry, we will address with the judge any conflicts that might arise because we made that offer of employment.
